Year 2008 Second Meeting of Chapter Operations Committee

The Second Meeting of the IEEE Japan Council Chapter Operations Committee of 2008 was held on Nov. 19 (Wed.) from 3:00p.m at Kousaikaikan, Tokyo. The 55 members were participated. The 2008 activities of the Japan Council were presented by the Secretary. The 2008 activities of the Chapter Operations Committee were reported by the Chair. The number of supported projects using the chapter operation fund was 58. We had discussions on chapter sponsor award guideline, and revision on guideline for chapter operation support. The activities from June to October 2008 were also reported by each chapter.

Year 2008 Third Meeting of Japan Council Long Range Strategy Committee

The Third Meeting of Japan Council Long Range Strategy Committee of 2008 was held on November 19th (Thu.) from 5:30p.m at Kousaikaikan, Tokyo.
The Minutes of First Meeting of Japan Council Long Range Strategy Committee was explained by the member Hashimoto and approved.
On this meeting there was a lively discusion.
On next year LRSC will continues a discussion about a relation between IEEE and national academic societies.
The Toshiba Japanese Word Processor Milestone Dedication Ceremony

The Japanese Word Processor developed by Toshiba Corporation, was approved as an IEEE Milestone on September 22, 2008. The Toshiba Japanese Word Processor Milestone Dedication Ceremony sponsored by the Tokyo Section was held at Hotel Okura at 11:00 on Tuesday, November 4th. Dr. E. Ohno, Trustee of the IEEE History Center, explained the background of the approval. Dr. Bernard S. Finn, Smithsonian National Museum honorary curator, presented a commemorative plate to Mr. Atsutoshi Nishida, President of Toshiba.

Marker Dedication Ceremony

After Milestone Dedication Ceremony, Two Lecture commemorative of Milestone were held.
First seminar entitled “A view of from the Smithsonian”and second entitled “How you can be active in the IEEE”.
The invited lecturer were Dr. Bernard S. Finn, Smithsonian National Museum honorary curator and Dr. Fumio Harashima, IEEE Japan Council Chair.There are 60 participants and the lectures were great success.
