講演内容（Abstract)
In this talk, salient common characteristics of many Semantic Web applications are first investigated
and it is argued that query languages are likely to become premier tools for implementing Semantic
as well as conventional Web applications. Then, it is argued that ``Semantic Web query languages'',
i.e. query languages well-suited to implementing Semantic Web applications, are desirable.
It is argued that such query languages should support data transformation (or re-structuring),
reasoning, temporal, calendric, and location data types and operations on these types, as well as
type checking and inference.
Finally, further useful properties of Semantic Web query languages are given.
講演者略歴(Biography)
Francois Bry, born 1956, is currently investigating methods and applications emphasizing XML, semistructured data, document modeling, and query answering. Formerly, he worked on deductive databases, automated theorem proving, and logic programming. Since 1994, he is a full professor at the Institute for Computer Science of the University of Munich, Germany. From 1984 through 1993, he was with the European Computer-Industry Research Centre (ECRC), Munich. Before 1983, he worked in a few companies in Paris, France, among others on an early word processor. He received in 1981 a PhD from the University of Paris. He has been visiting at several university and research centers, including ICOT in Tokyo. He gave invited talks at many major research centers, universities, and scientific conferences. He contributed to scientific conferences as an author, program committee member or chairman. He has been involved in research projects founded by the European Community (ESPRIT) and in doctoral schools founded by the German Foundation for Research (Graduiertenkollegs, DFG). He enjoys biking, hiking, and traveling.
