講演内容（Abstract)
'Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese', or CSJ, is a large-scale annotated corpus of spontaneous speech that has been constructed under the collaboration of the National Institute for Japanese Language, Communications Research Laboratory, and Tokyo Institute of Technology. Currently, we are at the beginning of the fourth year of the five year (1999-2003) project. The main body of the corpus consists of seven million morphemes, or about 640 hours of spontaneously uttered Standard Japanese monologue speech. The speech is systematically trascribed using more than a dozen of annotation tags. The transcribed text is then morphologically analyzed in terms of word-boundary and POS information. Moreover, sub-phonemic segment labels and intonation labels are provided for a subset of the corpus, namely 500,000 morpheme or about 45 hours of speech. As long as the Japanese language is concerned, CSJ is the richest source of spontaneous speech data both for information processing --like ASR and NLP--, and linguistics. In this talk, I will present the basic design concepts of the corpus, the status-quo of the compilation work, and some preliminary results of CSJ-based analyses of linguistic variations in the Standard Japanese.
