If you would like to nominate someone other than those listed above, please submit your nomination along with the signatures of more than 2% of the Members (114 Members) to IEEE Tokyo Section Office by September 30, 2002.

If there are additional candidate(s) nominated through the above-mentioned process, the ballots will be mailed to all voting members of the Section, and these are to be returned by November 30, 2002. New officers and Executive Committee Members will then be determined as a result of the voting.

Second Meeting of 2002 of Tokyo Section Executive Committee

The Second Tokyo Section Executive Committee Meeting of 2002 was held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 20 at the Otemachi Conference Room of NTT Advanced Technology Corporation. The Nominations Committee Chair Tanaka explained the process for the election of Tokyo Section Officers and Executive Committee Members for Year 2002/2003. The Executive Committee put forward the following as recommended nominations for the Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer), Yasuhiko Yasuda, Hitomi Murakami, Yuichi Matsushima, and Kaoru Sezaki. Secretary Koyanagi reported on the Region 10 Meeting held in April this year.

First Meeting of 2002 of the Chapter Operations Committee

The First Chapter Operations Committee Meeting of 2002 was held at 2 p.m. on June 11 at Gakushikai Annex. The activity plan and budget for the 2002 Japan Council and the use of Chapter support expenses were reported. Also, the representative of each Chapter reported on their Chapter activities. The establishment of EMC-S Chapter in Sendai Section and of CAS-S Chapter in Fukuoka Section was reported. It was reconfirmed that Chapter support expenses should be fully exploited to strengthen Chapter activities, including those of new Chapters.

Second Meeting of 2002 of the Japan Council Committee

The Second Japan Council Committee of 2002 was held on the afternoon of August 2 at Hotel Kochi New Hankyu in Kochi-shi, Kochi. Nominating Committee Chair Ohno nominated candidates for Japan Council officers, who were approved unanimously. Treasurer Hori reported on the accounts for the first half of year 2002. Committee Member Takeuchi reported on the plan to conclude a Sister Section Agreement at the Section Congress 2002, to be held in Washington, DC in the coming October. The Council meeting was followed by a round table meeting with Shikoku Section's executives, in which Shikoku Section Past Chair Hata reported on the process leading to the establishment of Kagawa University Student Branch. An active exchange of opinions ensued on how to increase the number of student members and members in the industry in Sections located away from Tokyo.

At the Japan Council party in the evening, a bouquet was presented to Japan Council Chair Nakahara to congratulate his honor as the recipient of 2002 IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal.

IEEE Region 10 Student Congress 2002

IEEE Region 10 Student Congress 2002 was held on July 17-21, 2002 at the National University of Singapore. As representatives from Japan Council, students from six universities (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Yamaguchi University, University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, Hokkaido University, and Yokohama National University) participated in the Congress and took part in active discussions.

Notice on IEEE Annual Election

The 2002 election of IEEE President and Board of Directors will be held. A ballot will be mailed to each voting member in August. Please don't forget to vote.
In parallel, the election of Director-Elect for 2003-2004 (Director for 2005-2006) of IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacific Area) will also take place. The three candidates listed below were nominated. Their statements of candidacy can be found at http://www.ieee.org/organizations/corporate/reg10.html#hpk.

IEEE Standards Association opens a new Web portal for Asians

This portal provides reference information for those wishing to obtain information about IEEE and other international technical standards related to Asia and for those involved in standards activities. The site name is StandardsAsia. There are some articles written in Japanese.
