IEEE 125th Anniversary Event
IEEE 125th anniversary reception was held from 5:00 p.m. on 23 October at the Level XXI Tokyo, Japan.
A total of 200 members, students, customers and friends turned out for the premiere event.
This event was one of the eight IEEE 125th anniversary events held world wide,
including three from Asia (Beijing, Bangalore and Tokyo).
In this ceremony, Dr. Toshiharu Aoki, IEEE Japan Council Chair, Prof. Yong-Jin Park,
IEEE R10 Director, and Dr. John Vig, IEEE President & CEO gave addresses.
After a speech by a science communicator from National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) for introducing their activities in Miraikan,
the keynote presentation was given by Dr. Mamoru Mohri, Astronaut and Chief Executive Director of the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation.
His impressive speech based on his experiences as the first Japanese astronaut onboard the Space Shuttle
was a strong and clear message for building sustainable earth and future human society.
Following the general program, the special reception was held for
media, IEEE fellows, students, academia, distinguished technology industry professionals and customers at the same location.
In the reception, IEEE WIE Affinity Group of the Year Award was presented to Dr. H. Kunii of WIE Japan Chair from Dr. J. Vig.
Also, winners for "Career Development Essay Contest" were awarded,
which had been jointly conducted by IEEE WIE Japan and IEEE Tokyo GOLD to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of IEEE.

The 2009 Third Commemorative Lecture of Tokyo Section
The Technical Seminar on "Future of Information & Telecommunications Technologies"
was held at Waseda University (Nishi Waseda Campus) on Friday, October 23.
After the breif introduction by Prof. Toshio Fukuda (Nagoya Univ., IEEE Region10 Technical Activities Coordinator),
Dr. John Vig (IEEE President) gave a talk on "The State of IEEE"
and Dr. Toshitaka Tsuda (Fujitsu Labs., IEICE President-Elect) gave a lecture on "Consideration on R&D for future ICT."
In the thnical session, Porf.Iwao Sasase (Keio Univ.), Prof. Koichi Asatani (Kogakuin Univ.),
Prof. Hironori Kasahara (Waseda Univ.) and Prof. Takuro Sato (Waseda Univ.)
discussed the present and future IT technologies.
