Year 2005 Second Meeting of IEEE Tokyo Section Executive Committee was held at the conference room of Sumitomo Kaikan from 15pm on Wednesday June 8.

Year 2005 First Meeting of Chapter Operations Committee

The First Meeting of the IEEE Japan Council Chapter Operations Committee of 2005 was held on June 22 (Wed.) from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. at Kousai Kaikan, Tokyo. 41 members were participated. The action plans and the annual budget in 2005, and the financial report in 2004 of the Japan Council were presented by the Secretary and Treasure of the Council. The action plans and the annual budget in 2005, and the financial report in 2004 of the Chapter Operations Committee were explained by the Chair and Secretary of the Committee and approved. The 2004 activities of each chapter were also reported.

Year 2005 Second Meeting of Japan Council Long Range Strategy Committee

Year 2005 Second Meeting of Japan Council Long Range Strategy Committee was held at the conference room of Sumitomo Kaikan from 2:00pm on Friday July 8.

  1. Report on Region 10 Annual General Meeting 2005 was presented from Dr. Hashimoto, treasurer of Tokyo Section.

  2. Preliminary talks in BOD to establish IEEE Japan were reported by Dr. Takeuchi.

  3. Application draft for the establishment of IEEE Japan was discussed and revised.

  4. Purpose of IEEE Japan's establishment was reconfirmed by LRSC secretary Gambe and essential issues were listed for IEEE Japan Council meeting on August 3.

  5. In the second half of the meeting, three visitors from IEEE Head Quarters including Mr.Marc T.Apter, Vice President in charge of RAB, joined. Mr. Apter presented the current status of IEEE, especially on the concern of the reduction of the membership world wide. Chair Tada explained current discussions on the formation of IEEE Japan and its possible structures. Mr. Apter gave valuable advices regarding basic ideas and how to step the application process.

Region 10 Annual General Meeting 2005

Region 10 Annual General Meeting 2005 was held in Singapore on March 30 and 31, 2005. The attendants from Japan were Takeuchi (Region10 Chair), Hirakuri (Region 10 Secretary), Ganbe (Region10 Treasurer), Hayashi(Tokyo Section Secretary), Hashimoto (Tokyo Section Treasure) et al. Total number of representatives was 59, including four from IEEE Head Office.

    1. In addition to reporting the present state of IEEE, he commented enhancement and
      promotion on volunteer activities of IEEE.

  • Address by 2005 Director VP-Regional Activities, Marc T. Apter
    1. Introduction talk on IEEE Section Congress 2005 in Tampa, Florida from October
      14 to 17, 2005. Also, IEEE's role and activities were presented.

  • Address by 2005 VP-Publication Services and Products, Leah Jamieson
      Publishing accounts reached around 50% of IEEE's revenue in 2003.
      Articles published on IEEE Explore are downloaded 52.4million times in 2004.
      IEEE will be the leader of Technical Information.

    1. Nine awards and three banners were given for anniversary of the founding. Tokyo Section
      won the Sustained Membership Growth Award and 50 Years Anniversary.

  • Budget-related
    1. Financial results for the fiscal year 2004 and budget for 2005 were announced.

  • TENCON scheduled from 2004 to 2008 was announced and the proposal from Singapore Section
    to hold TENCON in 2009 was approved.
