MESSAGE FROM THE NEW SECTION CHAIR@(2005/2006)
`Fumio Harashima (The President of Tokyo Denki University)`
It is a great honor for me to serve as Chair of IEEE Tokyo Section with two year term starting on January 1, 2005. The Tokyo Section has 7,401 members and is one of the largest sections in membership among 307 IEEE local sections.
I am also proud of the quality of the Tokyo Sectionfs members to see the number of IEEE Fellows in Tokyo Section is 319 among 7401 members, as of December 2004.
The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest, and the total number selected in any one year does not exceed one-tenth percent of the total voting Institute membership.
What is the role of Tokyo Section in the IEEE? As mentioned above, The Tokyo Section is one of the most important groups in the IEEE both in membership size and in quality.
Therefore our role must be to take leadership in the IEEE activities.
The IEEE provides generous services to members who pay membership fee. However, never be satisfied by the services given by the IEEE.
Think about how you can contribute to the worldwide human society through your IEEE activity.
The IEEE needs you. The mission of the IEEE is defined:
gThe IEEE promotes the engineering process of creating, developing, integrating, sharing, and applying knowledge about electro and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession.h
Be active in the IEEE Tokyo Section.
