IEEE Tokyo Section's Year 2003 General AssemblyThe IEEE Tokyo Section's Year 2003 General Assembly was held in Shinjuku NS Hall from 2:30pm on March 11(Tuesday), 2003. 52 members participated. Year 2002 business report, financial report and Year 2003 action plan were reported. 2003 annual budget proposal was discussed and approved. After the General Assembly, there was a ceremony of awards for new Fellows. 23 members were newly elected Fellows in the Tokyo Section for 2003 and 17 of them attended the ceremony. Each new Fellow who attended the ceremony ascended to the stage for the introduction of citations by Tokyo Section Vice Chair Murakami followed by presentation of framed certificates by Section Chair Yasuda. New Fellows made rejoicing speeches by speaking of aspirations and resolution for further efforts in their respective areas of research and business. From 5:45pm on the same day, a congratulation party for new Fellows was held peacefully at Shinjuku Washington Hotel to deepen mutual exchange of amenities. View of General Assembly First Lecture of 2003 hosted by IEEE Tokyo SectionAfter the General Assembly, the First Lecture of 2003 was hosted by the Tokyo Section entitled "Insight for the New Paradigm|Shaping the Future with IT". The invited lecturer was NTT Data Corporation President and CEO, Dr. Toshiharu Aoki, a 2002 IEEE Frederik Philips Award Winner. The lecture, outlined future developments in the IT field, was extremely well received by the audience for inspiring future research and business activities. View of Meeting First Meeting of 2003 of Tokyo Section Executive CommitteeThe First Tokyo Section Executive Committee Meeting of 2003 was held at Shinjuku NS Hall from 12:30pm on March 11(Tuesday). The Executive Committee concentrated on discussion and approval of General Assembly documentation, Year 2003 action plan and annual budget proposal. With the presence of new Section Officers and new Executive Committee members, briefings from Secretary Matsushima on IEEE organization of Headquarters and its geographical units and from Treasurer Sezaki on IEEE fund flows were presented. View of Executive Committee First Meeting of 2003 of IEEE Japan Council CommitteeThe First Meeting of the IEEE Japan Council Committee of 2003 was held on March 18(Tuesday) from 1pm at Chuo University's Ichigaya Campus. Year 2002 financial statement and audit were reported. Year 2003 draft activity plan and budget plan were discussed and approved. Long Range Strategy Committee members were approved. Draft proposal to revise section support funds scheme, which was started to support sections with small number of members, for the purpose of facilitating its positive utilization was proposed and approved. Each Committee and Section reported Year 2003activity plans. It was decided that the Sapporo Section as host Section will convene the Second Japan Council Committee in Sapporo this August. View of Japan Council Committee First Meeting of 2003 of Japan Council Long Range Strategy CommitteeThe First Meeting of 2003 of the Long Range Strategy Committee was held on March 18(Tuesday) from 3pm following the First Meeting of 2003 of Japan Council Committee. Chair Ikeda addressed the Committee on its objectives and on its direction of activities. Secretary Nishihara reported on 2002 activity and briefed the circumstances that led to the establishment of the Committee and its surrounding circumstances. Positive and active views on the direction of Japan Council activity and its positioning within IEEE were exchanged from a prospective perspective. View of Meeting Courtesy Visit of IEEE Computer Society President to Tokyo SectionIEEE Computer Society President Stephen L. Diamond visited Tokyo Section on March 27(Thursday). He was received by Tokyo Section Chair Yasuda, Secretary Matsushima and Executive Committee member Yamana, who Chairs Computer Society Japan Chapter.
