Third Lecture of 2002 hosted by the IEEE Tokyo Section

The Tokyo Section hosted a lecture at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2002. The lecture, entitled "The Future of Broadcasting Technology - with a Focus on Home Appliances," was given by the invited lecturer, Mr. Osamu Yamada, Senior Executive Officer, Pioneer Corporation. The lecture covered a wide range of topics in detail, including the history of technologies for satellite broadcasting, Hi-Vision (High Definition TV), PDP (Plasma Display Panel), digital broadcasting, and recent trends in the development of home appliances. The lecture also included interesting technical topics related to the use of broadcasting, such as the current status of radio frequency assignment and digital encoding schemes. (78 participants including 19 non-members)

Fourth Meeting of 2002 of Tokyo Section Executive Committee, and Party

The Fourth Tokyo Section Executive Committee Meeting was held at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2002 in a conference room of NTT Advanced Technology Corporation in Otemachi. The Tokyo Section Officers and Executive Committee Members elected for 2003 also attended the meeting. Items reported, discussed and approved included: the IEEE Sections Congress 2002, the signing ceremony for the Sister Agreement between the Tokyo Section and the Boston Section, Tokyo Section Officers, Executive Committee Members and the members of other committees for the term 2003/2004, the Activity Report for 2002, the Activity Plan for 2003, the estimate of the financial statement for 2002, and the draft budget for 2003. This final Executive Committee Meeting for 2002 was followed by a party.

Third Japan Council Committee Meeting of 2002, and Party

The Third Japan Council Committee Meeting was held at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2002 in a conference room of NTT Advanced Technology Corporation in Otemachi. The Officers for the next term also attended the meeting. The proceedings of the Second Japan Council Committee Meeting were approved, and the Officers, Council Committee Members and the members of other committees for the term 2003/2004 were discussed and approved. A summary of the discussion by the Long-Range Strategy Committee was reported, and the need for the continued promotion of IEEE activities in Japan was reaffirmed. The activities of 2002 were reported by each Section, and there was an active exchange of views on candidate themes for the IEEE Milestone and other subjects. This final Japan Council Committee Meeting for 2002 was followed by a party.
