The Second Tokyo Section Lecture Meeting of 2001

On Friday, June 29, starting at 4 p.m., a lecture was given by Professor Ken Sakamura
of the Information Studies Graduate School, the University of Tokyo, at the Sanjo
Conference Hall, the University of Tokyo's Hongo Campus. The two-hour talk entitled gTwenty Years of the
TRON Projecthreviewed the history of the TRON project, which began in 1984. Professor
Sakamura spoke of his personal experiences in the project's development and the major
technical considerations of TRON in easy-to-understand language. The talk was followed
by a lively Q&A session (participants: 89 people, of which 27 were non-members).

Notice of The Third Tokyo Section Lecture Meeting of 2001

Professor Leon O. Chua of the University of California at Berkeley will be the
guest speaker at the Third Tokyo Section Lecture Meeting to be held at the
Multi-Purpose Hall, International House, Tokyo Institute of
Technology, at 3 p.m. on July 26, 2001. An overview of the lecture is available

The First Chapter Operations Committee Meeting of 2001
|
The IEEE Society Chapters under IEEE Japan Council had a lively discussion in a Chapter Operations Committee
Meeting held at the Otemachi Teishin Building on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 27 and
were joined by a new Chapter established within the Kansai Section. At this first Committee
Meeting of 2001, Chair Tokura explained the efforts at promoting activities of Japan Chapters
(regional organizations of IEEE Societies) and establishment of new Chapters. Following his
talk, a representative from each Chapter reported on his or her Chapter's activity within
the last six months.
Committee Secretary Mukai explained that each Chapter is entitled to apply for financial
support for activities that strengthen service to Chapter members and increase
membership. Chair Tokura encouraged the attendees to make the best use of this offer to promote
scietific and technical activities.
Application for Establishement of Society Chapter

The Committee confirmed its position to support establishment of new Chapters in Sections
in order to improve services to the members and encourage regional activities
