General Assembly and Lecture Session Held Successfully

In the afternoon of Friday, March 17, 2000, the Fiscal 1999 General
Assembly and Lecture Session of the Tokyo Section was held in the Basement
Auditorium of the NEC Head Office, located at Shiba, Minato-ku.
A Sociable Gathering was held in the Multipurpose Hall of the same.
At the Section General Assembly, the Fiscal 2000 Business Plan and Budget
Proposal were discussed and approved.
Following the customary introduction of New Fellows, the Section-
recommended winners of the 3rd Millennium Medal were introduced.

Presentation of New Fellows with Citations
|
Following the Annual Meeting, Year 2000 Fellows were introduced with
Citations. Upon the introduction of the citations by Dr. Hajime Sasaki,
Section Vice Chair, each Fellow was presented a framed certificate by
Dr. Shigeo Tsujii, Chair of the Tokyo Section. Customary speeches given
by New Fellows were blessed by the double enjoyment of one recipient
who celebrated his distinction with the birth of his new baby.

Presentation Ceremony of IEEE 3rd Millennium Medal
|
In commemoration of the year 2000, ceremonies were held for
the presentation of IEEE 3rd Millennium Medal, which is given to
3,000 people in total worldwide.
Thirty-seven people were selected from the Tokyo Section as recipients,
and Section Chair Tsujii presented the medals.

Commemorative Lecture Session
|
The presentation by Professor Yasuda of Tokyo University on
state-of-the-art image encoding was enthusiastically given, running
into overtime without the departure of anyone in the audience.
Thanks to the goodwill of Professor Yasuda, we have uploaded
the materials used in the presentation.

Social Gathering with IEEE President, Dr. Eisenstein
|
Dr. Bruce Eisenstein, President of IEEE, visited Japan in early March
and attended separately a Social Gathering on Wednesday, March 8, with
the key members of the Tokyo Section and the Japan Council, as well as
the heads of renowned Japanese academic societies.

Mt. Fuji Meteorological Radar Designated IEEE Milestone
|
The IEEE has designated the meteorological observation radar built
on the summit of Mt. Fuji in 1964 by the Meteorological Agency as
an IEEE Milestone for being representative of electronic technology
supporting state-of-the-art applications of our time.
On March 6 at the Meteorological Agency, a ceremony was held for
presenting a plaque commemorating the IEEE Milestone.
