WIE Japan
IEEE
Japan Council Women in Engineering Affinity Group
Message from the Chair
It is my great pleasure to announce that Japan Council IEEE Women In
Engineering Affinity Group was formed in May, 2005. Currently, there
are over 70 IEEE WIE Affinity Group Chapters worldwide. The election
was held in July 8, 2005; a chair, a vice chair, a secretary, a
treasurer and other officers were chosen. We are delighted to have so
many people coming together to support the purpose of this group. I
have been selected as the first chair of JC IEEE WIE. I promise that I
will do my very best to make sure that WIE flourishes in its mission to
provide women engineers and scientists in Japan with internationally
recognized, attractive forums in which women can share technical and
social activities with all colleagues. The goals for the JC IEEE WIE
are:
- To gather and disseminate information regarding the status
of women, and initiatives for, by and on behalf of women in engineering and science.
- To facilitate mentoring and education programs within IEEE
and to make information available regarding gender
related educational issues which may improve the recruitment and
retention of women in engineering programs.
- To increase the participation of women within IEEE.
- To address ways of improving the climate for women in IEEE,
the workplace, and the engineering profession.
My most heartfelt thanks to Ms. Carole Carey, 2005 IEEE Regional
Activities Board Liaison, WIE Committee Interim Chair, for her efforts
in establishing WIE Japan. My vision for the future is that we must
find more ways to provide opportunities for WIE to be part of every IEEE
chapter in Japan and indeed in the world.
